TRENDY, To Be or Not To Be, That is the Question!
A trend is what’s hip or popular at a certain point in time.
Do you want to be trendy when it comes to your interior design and decorating?
Well, that’s a double-edged sword, isn’t it?
In order to be up to date and stylish you need to incorporate some trend.
But, that said, you don’t want your style to be so trendy that you need to redo it every year.
If you’ve been following me on Facebook – www.facebook.com/detailsfullserviceinteriors, then you probably know my answer to this age-old question.
When it comes to super trendy you should add it in small, inexpensive doses, like throw pillows, decorative accessories, smaller pieces of furniture, items that you don’t mind replacing periodically.
Here are my Top 5 Trends right now, that you can add to your space to give it an update.
- Navy Blue – Navy blue and cobalt blue are certainly having a moment! While blue is big right now and considered trendy, blue doesn’t really go out of style, does it? I just used it on a job in the form of a blue sectional sofa. It looks fabulous with gray and beige. It also looks great popped with orange or yellow.
- Tropical Prints – Who doesn’t love a tropical vacation? Well, incorporating a tropical print in your home can make everyday feel like a vacation!
- Texture – With neutral interiors being so popular right now, texture is super popular right now too. When you do a neutral space you NEED to incorporate lots of texture to add interest. Plus, as I told you back in this blog post, https://www.detailsfullserviceinteriors.com/5-interior-design-cheats, I like to add a bit of wicker to every room I do. It adds some warmth to the space. You can add texture with any wicker – baskets, furniture, whatever. You can also add texture with throws or fabrics like the ones I saw at the Design Center.
- Mixed Metals- For some reason, people are afraid to mix metals in a space, but we’ve actually been doing it for years. Remember back in the 80’s when you had black appliances and brass light fixtures? Or, how about in the 50’s when appliances were all kinds of colors and so was the lighting? Mixing the metals in your home makes it feel more interesting. It adds some personality. Treat metal finishes like you would colors. Use mostly one metal and then add a second and/or third metal as an accent. In kitchens, don’t be afraid to have stainless steel appliances and gold fixtures. In your living room, don’t be afraid to add gold and silver to a space.
- Fun lighting – Lighting and lamps are like the jewelry for your room! It doesn’t have to be so serious. Have a little fun! Go for a funky chandelier. Add a bright colored lamp like the ones in the picture. Did you know you could order SO many colors right on LampsPlus.com?
Decorating your home should be fun and easy.
When someone walks in your home they should learn something about your personality right away, just by looking at your décor.
