The Most Creative Way to Get Your Dream Home
Okay, I’m sure you’ve heard of it – Virtual Interior Design, or eDesign. But what is it REALLY? We tackled a virtual online design for a master bathroom project and we’re here to walk you through every step of the process! We can design pretty much anything from our office here in Western Massachusetts. Regardless of where you live, you can have an interior designer to help with your project too!
These design clients live in Hilton Head, South Carolina and wanted help with their master bathroom renovation. It was a large project and they weren’t sure where to start. They were looking for a bright and airy beachy feel to go with their location, instead of the 1990’s Tuscan style that it had originally. They contacted us and we were able to help them throughout the entire project, virtually.
First Steps
To start, we collaborated with the homeowners and the contractor, Coastal Living Builders, in order to come up with an entirely new floor plan.
There were quite a few challenges and tons of strange angles.
They had two separate sink areas, a strange counter area, a tub they didn’t use and closets that weren’t functioning very well. They wanted two functioning sink areas, a large walk in closet and they also wanted to move their downstairs laundry area up to the bathroom.
We added a sink to the former counter area, creating two vanities right across from each other.
We decided to turn the original large shower and toilet area into the new walk-in closet.
Then we put a new walk-in shower where the original tub was and moved the toilet area next to that for some privacy.
The man of the house took over his wife’s former closet and his former closet became the new laundry area.
There was also an existing coffee bar in the bathroom that we kept but re-designed (who doesn’t want a coffee bar in their bathroom??)
Next Step
Once we had the layout finalized it was on to the fun stuff, the finish selections.
We use a software program called Mydoma to collaborate with local clients and online clients. We are all able to upload inspiration photos so that we can narrow down the style that any client is looking for.
Then, once we choose items, we can upload them onto that site and clients can see and approve products right online. We created a mood board in that program as well, in order to “present” the whole plan to them. They were able to see our vision! We chose light, marble look tile with lots of glass and chrome to brighten up the whole room. We also chose more clean, modern fixtures to update the bathroom. We used white cabinetry for a lighter, beachy look and accented it with a sea blue cabinet for the coffee bar.
The contractor was then given access to the site so that he had the complete detailed list of selections.
For online clients, we use online suppliers and we go to our local suppliers and choose items that are available wherever the client is located. For this bathroom, we chose all of the fixtures and finishes right here in our office and in our local showrooms and their contractor was able to purchase the exact items that we chose, either online or at his suppliers in South Carolina.
We were available for any questions throughout the entire process. We were able to use FaceTime to keep in contact and to see the progress. If there was a question about an area, they could show it to us and we could talk it through to come up with a solution together. What would we do without modern technology?!
Renovating and remodeling can be so stressful! And there are so many options out there nowadays! Homeowners can easily get overwhelmed. Having a designer choose everything that will work together can be a huge stress relief! And when a designer and a contractor work together, it can be magical!
Whether you live locally or not, we can work together to create your dream home. We do online designs for clients who live in our local western Massachusetts area as well. These clients are able to oversee and run their remodel, or they have a contractor to do it, they just need help with all of the selections and decisions they need to make. Online design, eDesign, is a great option for those clients as well as clients who live out of state.
Some seriously gorgeous afters here, Wendy!
