How to Make Your Guests Feel at Home
7 Things You NEED in Your Guest Room
1. Soft, quality bedding will make your guests feel at home.
Doesn’t it feel good sliding into a fresh, clean bed with nice, soft sheets? You can only get that from quality sheets. You can’t skimp here. Sorry, but the cheap sheets are scratchy. Always buy 100% cotton, Egyptian, pima and Supima are the best cottons. Synthetic sheets or cotton mixed with polyester don’t breath. You’ll wake up sweating, even in the winter. Make sure it’s a combed cotton and 300 – 400 thread count is plenty. There’s no need to splurge on a 1000 thread count sheet. My favorite brand is Macy’s Hotel Collection. You can’t go wrong with them. I wait for a sale and a coupon!
2. No clutter – You don’t need clutter in your guest room.
No guest wants to come and stay in the middle of your mess. That’s it. Clean it up.
Bedside lamps – If your guest room has an overhead light you still need at least one lamp next to the bed. Nobody wants to stumble their way in toward the bed in a dark room after turning the light off.
Fresh flowers – Splurging on some fresh flowers before your guest arrives makes them feel special. If they have allergies pick upalittle potted plant instead.
3. You need good pillows in your guest room.
Having fresh, clean, fluffy pillows is a guest room essential. Nobody wants to sleep on your old pillow that you cast off to the guest room. Pick up a pack of pillows just for the guest room. You can find them at Costco or even HomeGoods. It’s a bonus if you have different kinds, thin, thick, firm, soft. That way every guest is covered.
4. Fresh, fluffy towels will make your guests feel at home.
It’s nice to leave some fresh, thick guest towels right in the guest room. That way guests don’t need to rummage through your linen closet. Plus, leaving them in the guest room keeps them nice for guests. Macy’s Hotel Collection, again, is my favorite.
5. You need a clock in your guest room.
It’s always good to know what time it is when you wake up.
Empty closet and/or drawer space –Leaving some closet and/or drawer space for your guest to put away their clothes is a good idea too. That way they don’t need to leave their clothes crammed in a suitcase for the duration of their stay.
6. Incidentals – Providing incidentals, that your guest may have forgotten, is a great way to make your guest feel welcome.
Incidentals like tissues, toothpaste and an extra toothbrush – Guests always forget something. If you have a little basket in your guest room with essentials like toothpaste and an extra toothbrush, your guest won’t have to feel like they’re bothering you asking for one.
7. A Wastebasket in your guest room will help make your guest feel at home.
Where will they throw their tissues away?
The secret to being a great host or hostess is to make your guests feel special. Having your guest room ready with everything a guest may need is the best way to do that!
