It’s Here! A Surprise Reveal with a Great Reward
We were honored to be able to help this local Monson, Massachusetts family who had an accidental fire and lost everything in their home. When they were rebuilding, they weren’t really sure where to turn for furniture or decor. The homeowner was nervous about calling us, even though she’d known me for years. She said that she didn’t even know what questions to ask an interior designer, or how we worked. When she did call, I assured her that it was really a simple process and, of course, we could help! After offering all of our service options, they chose Full Service Design. But before we could get started on the furniture and decor plan, they also needed help choosing their finishes with their builder. Then we moved on and created a furniture and decor plan for every room.
They needed a comfortable space where they could feel at home again. It was a challenge to determine what their taste was since most everything was gone, so we made sure to get as much information from them as possible. We wanted to be able to personalize some items so that they loved their home afterward! After all, it IS our motto. “Interior Design for the way YOU live!”
These clients ended up being the easiest clients to work with! They completely trusted us and let us do our thing. The process was very straight forward. We came up with a plan for everything, created mood boards for each space and presented it to them. Every single item we chose was loaded into a program that we use to collaborate with our clients and keep our projects in order, Mydoma. They were able to easily sign off on the items, and that was it! We only changed one thing. They trusted us to take care of it all. We selected everything from paint colors to the furniture to the fabrics to the contrasting welt to the book on the coffee table. We went with them to select their finishes for the kitchen and bathrooms. We wanted them to be timeless and they definitely are! (Click HERE to read about creating a timeless kitchen and HERE to read about subway tile!)
We wanted to make everything cohesive and current. It was really important to us that we make them feel like they could LIVE there, so we chose practical furniture with performance fabrics (more on that HERE!) and added personalized touches throughout the home. For instance, we chose New England Patriots blue roman shades in the ‘man room’ for this New England family. We also added lots of flowers and plants for these gardeners.
In the large master bedroom we added a custom chair, again in performance fabric for easy cleaning, to the corner for a cozy reading spot. Also notice, check out the picture above, the dresser and nightstands don’t ‘match’. They’re the same line but in different finishes. This helps things not feel too matchy matchy and a little more collected over time. This master bedroom happens to be one of my favorite rooms I’ve ever designed! I love how the rug coordinates, but doesn’t match, the bedding, and the same with the oversized art. I just love the bright, fresh feel and the colors!
The homeowner had TONS of these tiny glass salt cellars that were handed down from her grandmother and the restoration company was able to restore them. Since that was just about the only thing that was salvaged, we needed to creatively use them in the design. We ended up lining these glass jars, some with candles, with them and displayed them in a sleek metal cabinet. It worked out really well and now she can look at them every day!
And speaking of this cabinet, the homeowner was used to her old cherry curio cabinet and asked for one to replace it. But, you KNOW I couldn’t choose a cherry curio cabinet with the Queen Anne leg! We talked her into this industrial feel, metal cabinet. Again, she trusted us. And you know what? They love it!
This family really loves their basset hounds, so we made sure to bring in this sweet dog photo as a triptych canvas in their finished basement! The basement is the dog’s hangout space, where they basically have a sectional all to themselves!
Once construction was all done, we were able to go in and create their dream home. Finally, after 8 long months, it was DELIVERY DAY, actually delivery week. It took us three days to do the total installation. When the delivery company pulled up, we were ready! We spent two days directing them where to put every single piece. We hung artwork, draperies, made beds, put light bulbs in lamps, removed tags, arranged and rearranged accessories, everything to make it picture perfect! After three exciting and busy days of installation, their beautiful new home was complete. We asked the family to please not peek at the home while we were working on it, so that everything would be a surprise!
And then, just like a big HGTV moment, we had the big reveal! It was so gratifying to see their faces when they walked into that house. They loved everything! And, best of all, they didn’t have to do a thing, except move in their clothes and ENJOY!
The husband, a former Massachusetts state trooper, has a bad back, so we ordered him a power leather recliner to go in his “man room”. He hopped right in and could have taken a nap right then and there! Also, notice the antique baseballs in the little wire basket next to the chair! He loves baseball. And there are those Patriots blue shades! It’s all in the details!! 😉
We couldn’t have asked for this whole-house project to go any more smoothly. Our process was put to the ultimate test and we’re super happy with the way it turned out! But, most importantly, they’re happy, comfortable and HOME!
This project will be professionally photographed after the holidays. Check back in our Portfolio in 2020.
