How to Get the Look of this Peaceful Master Bedroom
These days, who wouldn’t like a peaceful place to retreat to in their home? This is one of our favorite bedrooms that we’ve ever designed here in Western Massachusetts. Take a look at the whole home here! It’s so calming and inviting. But, how do YOU get that professionally designed master bedroom retreat? We’re spilling some design secrets!
First, if you’ve been following us for any amount of time, then you know that matchy matchy is a no no. We always recommend mixing your furniture pieces up and not getting a furniture set. This bedroom is the perfect example of that. The bed and dresser are in one finish, and the nightstands are completely different. Buuuut they coordinate because they’re the same line, just in a different finish. It just creates a more curated look. Second, we think that a master bedroom should be calming and restful, so go with a soothing color palette like we did in this bedroom. But, again, how can YOU get that look? We’re sharing below.
We thought, why not share some easily accessible products that are a similar look and feel? We’ve put together furniture, accessories and bedding that will give you a similar feel, with pieces you can purchase on your own. Here we go!
Bed – The bed is super important. It’s the largest piece in the room, and you want it to feel comfortable and cohesive with the rest of the room. We chose a woven bed in a light tone in the master bedroom above to add texture to the room while still keeping the room calm. Check out this pretty bed that has the same feeling as the one in the photos. It’s a woven wood in a neutral wood tone. Bedding – When it came to the bedding in this room, we wanted something luxurious but we wanted it in soothing colors, again to keep the room calm and serene. We went with a custom bedding line but you could use this pretty linen bedding from Ballard Designs. Just grab a duvet cover and you’re all set.
Pillows – I know husbands frequently ask WHY there have to be so many pillows on the bed. But, there DO need to be. LOL It adds comfort and luxury to the space. So go for it! We did three custom euro pillows, two king shams and an accent pillow, in addition to the sleeping pillows. We mixed the duvet fabrics on the euros and added a soft floral for the king shams. Then we used a coordinating accent pillow in the duvet color but with some texture to the fabric. Be sure your pillows go the width of the bed for full luxury. These from Society 6 will give you the soothing feel that we had.
Nightstand – We love the nightstands that we added to this master bedroom, with hidden charging, felt lined drawers and motion sensor night lights for those late night trips to the bathroom. For YOUR bedroom, here’s a great option from Arhaus.
Lamp – In our master bedroom project we chose simple circle lamps that don’t compete with the other items in the room, but DO add a little shine to the space. These lamps from Ballard will have the same effect for you.
Dresser – For the dresser, we went with the same line as the nightstands but in a wood tone that coordinates with the bed. The slight curve on the front softens the angular lines of the bed and adds some softness. The legs on this Arhaus one will do the trick for you.
Rug – The rug in this room REALLY pulled the whole room together. Truthfully, we chose the rug BEFORE choosing anything else. Sometimes that happens! We fall in love with the perfect piece for a room and then run with it. The one in the room is a 9 x 13 wool rug, which can be pricey (but SO worth it, in our opinion). If you want something similar check out this one from West Elm.
Chair – Again, this master bedroom was huge. So, of course we added a cozy corner to curl up with a good book. This custom chair was done in a soft teal fabric to coordinate with the rest of the room. We did a contrasting welt to brighten it up even more without being too bold for the comforting space. This cozy chair from Joybird in the Plush Mist fabric will have the same effect.
Artwork – When it comes to artwork, again, this room was large, so we went BIG! The art is over 5’ tall! But, the room required it. Go big on your art. Use up the wall. Read up on how to accessorize like a pro here! This one from Pottery Barn will work with the scheme. Depending on the size of your space, get one or both of them!
Plant – Every room needs a plant, right? At least that’s what we say. Plus this was a huge room and it needed some softness in the corners. However, this homeowner did not want a real tree in their master bedroom, so faux it was. Find out what else we always include in a room here! When it comes to faux plants, PLEASE don’t go cheap. Spend what you can so that you get the best looking faux that you can afford.
