Organizing with Dollar Store Items
Ok, so I did once have a houseguest ask me if I have OCD.
No, I don’t.
I don’t think I do.
Maybe I do.
Or, maybe I just feel better when things are in their place.
Either way –
You do not have to spend thousands of dollars in order get organized.
Who wants to spend tons of money on things you rarely see?
You CAN get organized on a budget.
Everyday items, including items from the dollar store can work wonders on your clutter.
Have a bunch of spice packets sliding all over your cabinet every time you’re searching through them?
Grab an ice cube container and line them up.
If you really want to go crazy, line them up alphabetically.
You could even spray the ice cube bin with spray adhesive, wrap it in leftover fabric that you have hanging around
and it would be pretty enough to put on your coffee table to hold your remote controls.
They’re also great for organizing under your sink. Line them up and fill them up.
Tired of your necklaces getting all tangled?
Pop a small tension rod in between 2 shelves in your closet,
hook the necklaces on and you’re all set to find the one you love in a heartbeat.
Don’t have 2 shelves to hold a tension rod?
2 options – either plop the tension rod on 2 command hooks attached to your wall,
or use a small drapery rod or towel bar attached to the wall.
Have tiny items like earrings, tacks, safety pins, etc. laying around?
Ice cube trays are awesome for organizing small items
like these or, paper clips, postage stamp rolls or spare change, whatever little stuff that needs to be corralled.
Pop one in your nightstand drawer.
Slide one into your junk drawer.
Put one in your desk drawer.
They’re great and they’re cheap!
Bathroom drawers full of toppled over toiletries?
Grab a plastic caddy from the dollar store.
Since the plastic they’re made out of is usually fairly thin they have some give to them
so you can squeeze them tightly into the drawer.
Start separating your toiletries.
Another great thing about the caddies, they’re easily washable.
Ever lose things in the back of your fridge?
Those turntables that they sell for your cabinets can be used in your fridge too!
Need an inexpensive desk organizer?
Grab a few colorful cups, wrap a piece of leftover ribbon or washi tape around it and voila!
Or, wrap a ribbon around 3 of them together and you’ve got one for pens, one for pencils and one for scissors, etc.
You can even get really creative and polka dot or stripe the cup with a fun nail polish color.
So, next time you’re about to drive by the dollar store, run in and look around.
Get inspired.
Get organized on a budget.
