COZY UP YOUR SPACE: FALL DECORATING TIPS

Cozy Up Your Space: Fall Decorating Tips - Details Interiors

As the leaves start to turn and the air gets a little crisper here in western Massachusetts, it’s officially time to embrace all things fall. And guess what? Fall decor doesn’t have to be all about witches, pumpkins, and ghosts (unless you want it to be, of course). As an interior designer with a penchant for cozy, I’m here to share some tips on how to decorate for fall without going the Halloween route.

Warm Up with Autumnal Colors 🍁

One of the simplest ways to infuse your space with fall vibes is through color. Swap out those bright summer hues for richer, warmer tones. Think burnt orange, deep burgundy, rustic browns, and earthy greens. HINT: Green is HUGE in the interior design world these days. These colors will instantly create that cozy, autumnal atmosphere you’re after. You can incorporate them through throw pillows, blankets, curtains, or even wall art. I mean, how easy is it to grab some fall color inspired pillows at HomeGoods? And I’m NOT saying go buy pillows that say Happy Fall Y’all or ones with plaid pumpkins. I’m saying pillows in fall inspired colors.

Texture Playtime 🧑

Fall is all about textures. Think plush velvet, chunky knits, faux fur, and soft flannels. Incorporate these textures into your decor through cushions, throws, area rugs or even go so far as to swap out your window treatments. Mixing and matching textures not only adds visual interest but also makes your space feel incredibly inviting.

Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice πŸŽƒ

Okay, so maybe we can’t completely escape pumpkins in the fall, but we can make them elegant. Skip the jack-o’-lanterns and opt for decorative pumpkins in muted tones like pale whites and soft blues. Go with colors that are already in your decor. You can arrange them in a beautiful centerpiece or display them on your mantel. Trust me; your space will scream “fall” without going overboard on the Halloween theme.

Autumnal Aromas πŸ‚

Your sense of smell is a powerful tool when it comes to setting the mood. Invest in some fall-scented candles or diffusers. Scents like apple cinnamon, pumpkin spice, or even just a comforting woodsy aroma can instantly transform your space into a cozy autumn sanctuary. Of course in New England I’m going to recommend a Yankee Candle. They last forever and smell SO good!

Nature’s Bounty 🌿

Embrace nature’s bounty by incorporating elements like pinecones, acorns, and dried leaves into your decor. You can arrange them in glass vases or scatter them across your dining table for a rustic, fall-inspired look. If you’re feeling crafty, try making a wreath out of these natural treasures for your front door.

Cozy Reading Nook πŸ“š

Fall is the perfect season to curl up with a good book. Create a cozy reading nook by adding a comfy armchair, a soft throw, and a side table with your favorite hot beverage. A well-placed reading lamp can complete the look and create an inviting spot to unwind during those chilly evenings.

Warm Lighting πŸ•―οΈ

Speaking of lighting, consider swapping out your bright white bulbs for warmer, softer ones. String lights or vintage-style Edison bulbs can create a cozy, relaxed ambiance in any room. Don’t forget to place candles strategically around your space for a touch of elegance and warmth.

Seasonal Artwork πŸ–ΌοΈ

Change up your wall decor with some seasonal artwork. You don’t need to go full-on fall foliage or spooky themes. A tasteful landscape painting with autumnal colors or a few vintage prints can give your walls a seasonal makeover.
