All of the Christmas Decorating Tips You Need - Details Interiors

The weather is getting colder here in Western Massachusetts! As much as I hate it, our first snow storm has already come and gone. But, at least it’s a great time to think about Christmas decorating! It’s good to plan ahead so you have an idea of what you’ll decorate and how. You’ll be able to go out and buy anything you might need before you start the process. I’ve compiled all of my past Christmas decorating tips and put them in one place for you. I hope you have fun with it and get in the holiday spirit!

Broken Christmas Decorations - Edit Your Christmas Decorations - Clean and Organize Your Christmas Decorations
  1. Edit. Go through all of your Christmas decorations. If there are broken items, throw them away. If there are lights that don’t work anymore, throw them away. If there are items you just don’t like anymore, donate them. Just like editing your closet, you’ll need to edit your Christmas decorations.
Clear Some Space - Remove Everyday Accessories - Details Interiors
  1. Clear some space. Be mindful of what and where you’re going to decorate. Remove all of your everyday accessories from those areas. TIP ALERT! My biggest tip of all, do not just pile your Christmas decorations on top of your everyday accessories. It will end up looking like a cluttered mess. If you store those everyday accessories in the bins that your Christmas decorations were in, you can just swap them back out at the end of the season. It will make you Christmas decorating look more intentional and thought out.
Plan a Color Scheme - Interior Decorator Near Me - Details Interiors
  1. Plan a color scheme. Do you have a lot of decorations that are in a certain color scheme? Run with it! As long as it works with the existing colors in your home, it will look pretty. If you need some more decorations in that color scheme, run out and grab them or order them online. It will look more put together and curated when everything coordinates. Your color scheme doesn’t have to be traditional either! Red and green is expected, but feel free to use unique colors! Black and gold, silver and plum, whatever works with your home and appeals to you!
Display Christmas Collections Together - Interior Design Near Me
  1. Display collections together. Maybe you collect Christmas trees, have a Christmas village, or Santas! Group them all together and make a statement. Maybe you have a wide staircase where you can group your Santas on one side, a fireplace that you don’t use where you can put your Christmas village, or a large dining table where you can group your trees together as a centerpiece. The sky’s the limit!
Decorate The Whole House for Christmas - Interior Design in MA
  1. Carry it through. Once your main living areas are decorated, it’s important not to forget the rest of the house! It’s not going to feel like Christmas in your bedroom if there are no decorations there! Something as simple as a decorative pillow or throw on the bed. Gather some sticks from your yard and spray paint them white. Put them in a vase and display them on your dresser. Voila! Drape a bit of garland over your bathroom mirror and add a seasonal candle. Just a little touch is all it takes to give the reminder!
Bring Personality Into Your Christmas Decorating - Details Interiors
  1. Personality. Don’t forget to bring in your personality! If you like something in particular, use it in your decorations. We’ve had clients that like chickens and we brought in little chicken ornaments on their garland! We had clients that liked music, and so we got a pretty ribbon with music notes on it and used it throughout. In the photo above, the clients had a bulldog so we used a little bulldog statue in their design and transitioned it into the Christmas decor. Be creative with it!
Add ribbon to everything for Christmas decorating - Interior Design in Monson Massachusetts
  1. Ribbon. Add ribbon to everything!!! Well, maybe not everything. But you can definitely add it to lots of things! Doors, a mirror over your fireplace, draperies, lampshades, lanterns, statues like the dog above! Anything! It’s an easy way to spruce things up and add a festive touch! Get a ribbon that goes with your color scheme. Get ribbon in different textures, like burlap or silk. Think of it as a way to soften things up. I’ve literally wrapped ribbon around the headboard in my guest room. Wrap your front door up like a present! Just don’t go TOO overboard or it could look like a craft store exploded in your house.
Use Ornaments on a Tray or Coffee Table for Holiday Decorating in Mass
  1. Ornaments. Believe it or not, ornaments don’t just have to be for the Christmas tree! They can be grouped together and displayed in a pretty glass jar (wrapped with a ribbon obviously), casually placed on a tray on your coffee table, or sporadically used in your dining table’s centerpiece. String them on to your garland so your tree and garland coordinate! Add some to a decorative bowl and place it on your kitchen counter to bring some Christmas into the kitchen. You can even put them in lanterns, add a ribbon and you’ve got yourself a great Christmas display! Get the idea?

Hopefully these ideas give you some motivation to decorate this holiday season! Just relax, put on your favorite Christmas music and start the process! Don’t forget to have fun. That’s the whole point!
