10 Things You Need to Include in
Your Bathroom Renovation

So when we’re doing a bathroom renovation project, we ask tons of questions and give them ALL of the bathroom remodel options. We don’t want to leave anything out or have our clients wish they had done something different in the end. To help you make the tough decisions, we put together a list of 10 essentials in a bathroom renovation. These options will also help with the resale of your home if you’re keeping that in mind as well.

- Quality Tile Tile is one of those things that you really should get right. It should be something you know you’re not going to get sick of, and it needs to be a good quality. A broken tile down the road could require you replacing all of them! Tiles get discontinued all the time, and each batch could be a different dye lot, which means the color could be slightly off. You want to be sure that you’re getting porcelain tile for the floor. It will be more durable than ceramic if you end up dropping your hair dryer on it. You can get away with ceramic tile on the walls, because nothing is going to be dropped on it. Read here about subway tile-yay or nay?

- Walk-In Shower If you’re remodeling your master bath, opt for a walk-in shower. You’ll maximize the space and you can completely customize it. It feels so much more luxurious to step into a walk-in tile shower than stepping into a tub-shower combo. And, it’s easier as you get older. Definitely shoot for a glass door as well. It will make the entire bathroom feel more open and spacious. It will also let more light into the shower. The new glass doors aren’t like the old ones that were a pain to clean. New options for the glass include a coating that helps water run off of the glass.

- Soaking Tub If you have space for a soaking tub, it’s an investment you won’t regret. There’s nothing like soaking in a stand-alone tub with a bathtub tray, a candle and a glass of wine. There are so many gorgeous tub options now. Your tub could be like a piece of art in your new bathroom!

- Gorgeous Lighting There’s something to be said about good lighting. Lighting can make or break a room. Make it pretty! The right lighting can act like jewelry for a room. There are so many sources for lights, so don’t just settle for your local big box store. Search for a little while and plan it out. Keep in mind that yes, it IS ok for your lighting to be a different finish than your other fixtures! Varying finishes and textures keeps things interesting. A good rule of thumb is to stop at two metal finishes in a space. You could do brushed nickel and polished nickel, or matte black with brushed gold. The options are endless!

- Not Just an Ordinary Mirror Please, please, please don’t get the mirrors that match your bathroom vanity. Try and find something unique! There are tons of resources for mirrors as well. Find something that is a little decorative, but not over the top. It can be in the shape of a rectangle, circle or even an oval! Again, this is a chance to give your bathroom some personality and fun.

- Quality Plumbing Fixtures I don’t want to knock the big box stores, but most good plumbers will either not install or will not warranty their work if you use fixtures from a big box store. This is because the insides are not the same as products you’d buy at a specialty plumbing store. They are plastic instead of metal, and not the same quality. Don’t be fooled. Most companies make the exact same faucet on the outside for plumbing supply and for big box stores. Trust me, the insides and the quality are different. Yes, they can be a bit more expensive at a plumbing store, but you’re also buying a piece of mind.

- Two Sinks Do your significant other’s tooth brushing habits bother you? Is there disgusting hair in the sink every time you go to wash your hands? Guess what! Two sinks will solve all your problems. I highly recommend two sinks if you can possibly fit them. You can designate who gets what sink and never have to deal with it again. You’re welcome.

- Radiant Heated Floors You will never regret walking out of your shower onto nice, warm tile floors on a cold day. The type of heat you get will depend on the situation, the type of flooring you choose and personal preference. You can either have hydronic radiant heating plumbed in with tubes under the floor, or electric cables can be run under the floor. They will both heat the floor evenly. This is one of those things that people think they don’t need. But we say go for it, because it’s a luxury you will never know you’ve been missing until you try it.

- Towel Warmers Mounted on the Wall Just like the heated floors, who doesn’t want their towel to be nice and warm when you get out of the shower?? Wall mounted towel warmers don’t take up any floor space, they’re reasonably priced and they can coordinate with your other fixtures and hardware. They’re TOTALLY worth it! No more trying to warm up in the middle of winter, you can even put a throw on there before you snuggle up with a book!

Your Kitchen Remodel
I appreciate you bringing up quality mirrors as an important part of bathroom renovations. There has always been something bothering me about my bathrooms and how they have very small mirrors for a family that uses a lot of skincare products and other bathroom necessities. It’s been difficult to find a time and place to do touchups and make-up, so I’ll definitely ask about quality mirrors from any renovation services that I talk about my home upgrade plans with.
Well this post about bathroom remodeling is awesome… consider yourself added to my blogroll.
