Rustic Refinement

Our design team was enlisted by the client’s daughter to transform a dated 1990s family home in South Hadley, MA into a masculine retreat for her father and brother. While the client, a commercial builder, had construction expertise, he needed our design guidance.
You can see all of the Before & Afters of this project here.
Initially, we planned to renovate the entire first floor except the kitchen. However, after presenting our vision, a full kitchen renovation was embraced. The new kitchen features warm wood tones, a custom copper sink, and a copper backsplash, reflecting the client’s love for the outdoors. Pale neutral paint, clear glass pendants, and light earth-tone quartz countertops add brightness. The result is a warm, masculine kitchen that perfectly meets the client’s needs.
The family room received a full update, including the removal of the popcorn ceiling, fresh painted trim and walls, new carpet, and a new stone fireplace face. We refreshed and incorporated some of the client’s artwork and furniture for a comforting familiarity. The old raspberry carpeted 90s design was replaced with warm, masculine tones and ample seating for watching games, relaxing by the fire, or reading in the sunny front window.

The living room/dining room also received the same updates as the family room, including a new stone fireplace face and incorporating some of the client’s furniture.
As for the construction side of the project, we reworked an entry/laundry room and bathroom. We removed one of the hallway openings (you can see all of the Before pics here) so that we could enlarge the bathroom AND provide more seating in the adjacent family room. We moved the laundry and stacked the washer and dryer to conserve space. The result is a warm, modern but rustic bathroom that suits the client’s needs and tastes.
The foyer was the other construction portion of the project since we lowered a cathedral ceiling that was inefficient. The lower ceiling helps with heat on cold winter days and also warms up the space visually. In lieu of replacing the entire staircase we opted to save here and update with paint.
The result is a rustic yet modern space that perfectly aligns with the client’s vision.
