How much did that room cost?
Sharing the investment details for this tropical inspired primary bedroom!
Renovating a room in your home is an investment and we always want you spending your money wisely. How do you budget and spend wisely on your remodel? By being educated and informed about what goes into a fully designed room. And that’s what this blog is about. Prices do vary around the country. I’m sharing what I spent on my own primary bedroom refresh here in the woods of western Massachusetts.
At the end of every Interior Design Consultation we have a budget worksheet that we go over with clients. Because we’ve found that while people have an investment level in mind, they don’t really factor in everything that needs to go into a space to get that complete, comfortable look. We pull out the sheet and we circle all of the items that we’ve talked about putting into their space. And then we add it up. Most of the time people are surprised. Most people have put a room together but they’ve done it over a period of months or years. They’ve probably spent what we’re proposing, or more, but again, over time. Try this. Go into your bedroom and add up EVERYthing in it, every piece of furniture, every accessory, every pillow, every lamp, ALL of it. I bet it’s way more than you think you spent on the room!
With that in mind, I thought I’d share with you exactly how much my bedroom renovation cost. I shared the whole back story and process with you a few weeks ago. You can check that out HERE. But, have you ever looked at the pretty pictures of a designer’s project and wondered what it cost? I’m spilling the beans today! I always say to my clients that we like to keep it all out in the open. So here we are opening up about the investment in my own bedroom. Let’s GO.
(All prices are without any applicable sales tax)
It started with paint. I used our custom color – Welcome Home. I painted myself and already had the tools – $180
Next was the custom designed upholstered king bed – $4960
Plus the new king mattress – $1399
Bedding – $2386
Nightstands – $1598
3 Lamps – $866
Plants and Planters – $260
Lanterns & Candles – $489
Custom Window Treatments – 2 roman shades, 1 ripplefold rod & 1 ripplefold drapery set – $2485
Installation (because I do not do that on my own) – $100
You can read my thoughts on WHY you should invest in custom window treatments HERE
Wallpapered Ceiling, wallpaper and installation (because I cannot do that either) – $1285
Ceiling fan – $485
Shelves – $0 (I already had them in another room)
Accessories for shelves – $675
This is something that ALWAYS adds up faster than people think. But the investment is TOTALLY worth it!
Art – $459
That’s for the large piece behind the tv. One of the other pieces is our wedding vows that I printed and had. The other was a gift from my mom.
Dresser – $2199
The carpet stayed as it was, so no expense there.
I also didn’t have to invest in the invaluable work from an interior designer 😉
And the grand total is – $19,826
Was it more than you thought it would be?
What surprised you?
Of course some of you are going to say that I could have saved money in certain areas. Of course I could have. BUT this room is our sanctuary. It’s a place that calms and relaxes us. And it was worth every penny!
I’d love to know what you think. Leave a comment.
