Top 3 Interior Design Trends of 2021 That You
Can Actually Use
We just got back from this year’s Spring High Point Market in High Point, North Carolina. AND we are SO excited to share with you some of the latest interior design trends! If you don’t know, High Point Market is the LARGEST home furnishing show in the WORLD! AND this was the first one we’ve been to since COVID-19 hit last year.
You can think of it as a sort of fashion week for interior design. We get to see all the latest designs and talk to all the other designers from around the world. It’s the best way to stay up to date on trends and products that fit all of our New England client’s needs! AND of course we can’t keep all this information to ourselves. SO here are the top 3 trends that we saw and will continue to see throughout 2021!
You may notice that these are trends that we were thinking about at the end of 2020. It’s great to see them sticking around since nobody wants to constantly change their home decor to keep up with what’s trending. We have even used them in quite a few of our design projects that we’ve been working on in 2021. SO… let’s get right to it!
1. WALLPAPER
The first one is wallpaper!! So if you’re like me and you grew up in the 80s, when you first think about wallpaper you probably think about that country blue and those tiny little flowers. At least that’s the wallpaper my mom had in our kitchen growing up! And I might have even had it in my bedroom growing up… BUT wallpaper for 2021 is NOT THAT wallpaper. Two of the trends we saw for wallpaper are textures and bold prints. Textures like the beautiful blue, green wallpaper seen at High Point Market in the picture on above.
And if you follow us on Instagram then you’ve seen this beautiful bold print wallpaper that we recently used in a client’s home where we turned one of her spare bedrooms into a Ladies Lounge.
2. PAINTED CABINETS
The second trend is painted cabinets! Now I know that you have seen quite a few white kitchens… Those white cabinets are painted cabinets! And you know I always tell you not to use a true chalk white on cabinetry, but to use a bit of an off white. It’ll give you a richer look. BUT you know what else we’re seeing for painted cabinets?
We’re seeing beautiful NAVY BLUE or DEEP GREEN painted cabinets! So, let’s jump off of the gray train. It’s left the station! I wouldn’t paint your cabinets gray right now because gray is on its way out as we have talked about before (check out our blog on The Best Neutrals to Pick Instead of Grey). But, here’s the thing, navy blue isn’t a trend that will go out of style. Navy blue is classic and timeless. So if you’re looking for painted cabinets go with an off white like we just did in the kitchens shown above OR go with a color that is not super trendy. Stay tuned, we’re actually installing a navy blue kitchen this summer… Aaaaand, we’re installing black kitchen cabinets this fall. Be sure to follow us on our instagram stories for all the behind the scenes!
3. COLOR
The third trend is color! We are still seeing neutral rooms that are grays and beige with tons of texture. We will always see neutral rooms, BUT we are seeing lots of color now too! Colorful paints, furniture, rugs, textiles, EVERYTHING! We saw baby blues, tons and tons of emerald green. But a deep green NOT the hunter green that we were seeing in the 90s because as with all trends they do come back but they come back with a little twist. We saw lots of saturated bold colors like golden yellow, true navy and even hot pink. Bold colors are back! The pictures above and below are all from arrangements seen at last week’s High Point Market.
Those are three of the trends that we saw at High Point Market and that we’ll continue to see throughout 2021. We are loving these trends and are definitely using them in our designs this year! Let us know what your favorite one is in the blog comments!
