Size Matters
How big should my __________ be for my room?
9 times out of 10 when you buy something for your home,
bring it home and it just doesn’t look right it’s because the scale is wrong.
So here are a few tips on sizing.
Sofa Table
A sofa table should be a couple of inches shorter than your sofa, so that items on the table don’t slide onto the sofa.
It should be the width of the inside of the sofa (not including the sofa arms)
Coffee Table
Your coffee table should be the height of your sofa cushions or 1-2” lower.
The ideal length for your coffee table is 2/3 the length of your sofa.
There should be about 15-18” of space between the front of your sofa and your coffee table.
End Tables
Your end table should be a couple inches lower than the height of the arm of the sofa or chair it is next to.
Your end table should not be any deeper than the depth of the sofa or chair it is next to.
Area Rugs
Area rugs should be large enough so that at least the front legs of the furniture are on the rug.
If you’re doing a room-sized area rug, the general rule is to leave 12-18” of floor space around the perimeter of the rug.
