3 Tips to Host a Party Guests Will Remember!
Having people over and hosting get-togethers is one of my favorite things to do. My mom and my sister were caterers, they’re both retired. So hosting people is in my blood you might say! Today I thought I would share with you my top three party hosting tips.
Number one is to greet your guests at the door. Have you ever walked into a party and you’re looking around and you’re not really sure where the hostess is? You don’t know everybody there so it’s a little bit uncomfortable, right? So if you’re hosting a party, you want to greet your guests at the door. Another thing you can do is introduce them to at least one person at the party. That way they have somebody else to talk to when you’re off greeting somebody else at the door. So that’s tip number one, greet your guests at the door.
Number two is to spread the food around. You know how everybody is always congregated in the kitchen and it gets to be really crowded in there? If you spread your food around, put a little bit in the living room, a little bit on the patio, people will follow the food! It gets the people out of your kitchen. They’re out of your way and they’re moving around the house and mingling a little bit.
Another thing in that thought is to put your bar somewhere else. Don’t set up your bar in your kitchen because people are already naturally there and you want them to be out of there, right? So put your bar somewhere else. Set up a bar in your living room or out on the patio. People will go there and congregate there. So that’s tip number two, to get your food and your bar out of your kitchen.
Number three is to enjoy your party. Don’t be running around and frantic and stressed out because your guests will follow your lead. Your guess will relax and have a good time if you’re relaxed and having a good time. Don’t be cleaning up. I mean you can clean up a little bit here and there, but don’t start doing dishes and cleaning up while your guests are still there because it’s going to make them feel uncomfortable.
Those are my top three party hosting tips! Greet your guests at the door and introduce them to somebody at the party, put the food (some of it) and the drink outside of your kitchen and enjoy yourself!

Three simple, but great tips for hosting a party. We’ll be throwing a fairly large party this summer so I will remember all fo these golden nuggets!
Love this! Great tips 😍
Number one seems so simple but I think is the most important! There have been many times I’ve wandered into a party and not known where to go- great tips my friend!1
The most common thing I hear from clients is that people all end up in the kitchen! Love the tip on how to prevent that! Perfect advice for entertaining.
Hi Wendy –
Thanks for these 3 great tips. I didn’t know you come from a family of caterers.
I really like the tip about making sure your guests are introduced to at least one other guest. That is so helpful.
Thank you for the tips I will sure follow the one that spreads the food around-that’s my issue!
Excellent advice, Wendy! I love to entertain too and am often asked if I cater (NO! LOL). But these are all really key tips. Whenever I host a large party, I hire a couple of mature high school kids to manage keeping food and drinks replenished and dishes cleaned up – that way I can enjoy the party and my guests don’t feel awkwardly obligated to offer to help!
