In case you missed it, there was a huge buzz last week when Sherwin Williams announced their Color of the Year for 2018.
Every year paint companies announce a Color of the Year that, they think, goes along with the trends in the design industry.
For Sherwin Williams, 2016 was Alabaster, a creamy white. 2017 was Poised Taupe. After those two paint color choices, I was happily surprised with the 2018 choice.

What is it, you ask?
It’s Oceanside SW6496

Sherwin Williams describes it as “a collision of rich blue with jewel-toned green, a color that is both accessible and elusive”.
I describe it as the perfect deep teal.

We saw tons of neutrals at High Point Market this fall.
Oceanside would be an incredible accent with those neutrals.

Oceanside is the perfect teal jewel tone.

Where would you use it?
It is definitely not too bright to use on all four walls in a room.
But, if you’re not that brave to use such a saturated color on every wall, yes, you could do an accent wall.
Or, you could paint a piece of accent furniture. How about using an old dresser in your dining room. Paint it Oceanside. Add some brushed gold hardware. Gorgeous!
It would also be fabulous on a front door. In fact, my own front door was painted a similar color a couple of years ago. What? You don’t paint your front door every couple of years? Well, it’s the excitement in my life. 😉 And, my dog loves to scratch at my front door, a habit I can’t seem to break him of.

Sherwin Williams says that Oceanside “is universal when it comes to design style from mid-century modern to Mediterranean-inspired, traditional to contemporary”, and I couldn’t agree more!

  1. Really love the idea of using it on a dresser or the door. Or hey maybe even in a small powder bathroom. Great post.
