Whether you’re freshening up for fall or getting ready for the holidays and the inevitable guests, October is the perfect time to update every room in your home.
There are easy ways to give each room a new look.
Here are 15 ways to give your home an update!
Here are three things you can do to give your kitchen a little freshen up without a total remodel.
Kitchen
Swap out your pendant lighting –
Changing out the pendants in your kitchen is a simple way to brighten up the whole room.

Swap out your cabinet hardware –
You can change out the handles and knobs in your kitchen in an afternoon. In order to keep the job simple, make sure you purchase the exact same size that you have now. Measure handles on the inside, screw to screw. Then simply unscrew the old and attach the new.
Swap your faucet –
Changing out your kitchen faucet is also a simple DIY job. You can even find videos on YouTube that’ll show you how to do it. A new faucet will add some sparkle to your dishwashing chores.
Bathroom
Change your shower curtain –
You’d be surprised how much a new shower curtain can freshen up the whole bathroom. Plus, those curtains get dingy, even after a few washes. The one below is from World Market.
Add colorful area rugs –
Your bathroom area rugs don’t have to be just a spot to wipe your wet feet. They can be colorful, fun and fresh. The ones below are from Pottery Barn.
Add new, fun, hand towels –
Walk down the HomeGoods towel aisle and you’ll be hardpressed not to be inspired. Adding new hand towels to your bathroom is an easy way to add some personality to your bathroom. The towels below are from Pottery Barn.
Living/Family Room
Brighten up a dark corner with a tall plant –
There’s really no need to have a vacant, dark corner in your living room. You can find great, tall plants at IKEA, Home Depot or Lowes. Drop them into an oversized basket and you’ve got a great way to add some life and color to your space
Add a fun area rug –
Adding an area rug to your room not only adds texture and warmth, it can also add some color if you like.

Rearrange your art & accessories in a new way –
The least expensive way to freshen up your entire home is to work with what you already have. Take down the art and accessories in at least two rooms. Lay it out. Take a look at it. Maybe that art from the dining room will look better in the bedroom. Maybe that vase from your sideboard is perfect for your mantel. Think outside the box. Sometimes when you look at the same stuff day in and day out you don’t even notice it anymore. Rearranging your current artwork and accessories is a great way to give it (and your home) new life.
Bedroom
Swap out your bedding for fresh and new –
I swap out my bedding when it gets cold and when it gets hot. In the late fall, I add a fluffy comforter to my bed and put away the thin coverlet that I use in the warmer months. And, I can’t even tell you how great it feels to have new sheets on your bed. You spend about 1/3 of your day in bed. You might as well be comfortable there!
Swap out your lamps or even just the shades –
When it comes to lamps beside your bed, first of all you need some, for light and for convenience. Second of all they need to be tall, please. Tiny little lamps next to a big, king-sized bed look terrible. Sorry, but they do. Go big or go home. If you love your current bedside lamps you can just swap out your shades. For the love of God, please get some barrel shades instead of those bell shades. It’s time!

Swap (or add) a headboard or cover your current one with a pretty scarf or throw –
If you don’t have a headboard, add one. You can use an old door, a folding screen, or upholster one yourself. It’s actually pretty easy. You can look this up on YouTube too. If you have a bed you love but it could use an update you can add a beautiful scarf or blanket over the headboard for some color and texture.
Foyer –
Your foyer is the first thing guests see when they come to your home. Your foyer is your opportunity to make a good impression.
Add a decorative coat rack –
Coat racks can add some fun and function at the same time.

Add a fun umbrella stand –
It’s the same with umbrella stands. You can add some whimsy to your foyer while providing a spot for guests to drop their wet umbrella.

Add a slim console –
No matter the size of your foyer or entry you can add a small console or even a floating shelf on the wall. It will add some dimension as well as a spot to drop keys.
