5 Interior Design Cheats That I Use on Almost Every Job
Shhh, Don’t Tell Anyone
It’s true, there are just some things that I end up doing on almost every job.
There are little cheats that I, as an interior designer, just know work for most clients.
And, I’m sharing those interior design cheats with you. Shhh, don’t tell anyone. 😉
Just kidding, tell whomever you like. Try them out. And then let me know in the comments or on the Details Facebook page. I LOVE to hear from you.
Here they are, 5 interior design and decorating cheats that I use with almost every client
1. Plants – Plants are the easiest accessory to add. They add warmth and texture to a room. And they’re perfect for filling up that awkward corner that was created when you pulled your furniture into a cozy conversation area. They have great plants at Home Depot and IKEA. If you can, go real. Faux plants can look really cheesy. If you have to go with faux, spend a little more money and get some quality faux plants. You know, the ones that look real!
2. Larger Pillow Fillers – Whenever you buy a pillow cover and need a pillow form/filler for it buy one size up. If you have an 18” pillow cover, buy a 20” filler for it. The pillows are fluffier and just look better.
3. Books – Books are another easy accessory to add. They are great for adding height to a too short accessory. They add warmth and texture to a room. And, if you find books that have personal meaning to you that’s even better. I was just accessorizing a client’s built-ins and found books that relate to them, Bruce Springsteen, football, sarcasm, whatever goes with their personality.
4. Wicker – Another thing I add to almost every client’s space is wicker. Now wicker doesn’t have to be baskets hung from the beam, like my mom did in the 80’s. You can add a magazine basket or a wicker tray to the coffee table. Wicker adds warmth and texture, something every space needs.
5. Black – Every room needs a touch of black, in my opinion. Whether it’s a picture frame, a drapery rod, or a sculpture, you need a touch of black. It pops in the space and adds a certain crispness.
