Who Says You Can’t Wear White After Labor Day?
Breaking the Rules!
As I slipped into my white jeans this morning I could hear my mom saying “You can’t wear white after Labor Day!”
The rebel in me didn’t care.
I almost wanted to put on the white just to let my rebel loose.
The good girl in me wondered if people would look at me and think “OMG she’s wearing WHITE after Labor Day!”
So what did I do?
I put those white jeans on and went about my day.
Who the heck made up these rules anyway?
To me it’s not about the color, it’s about the fabric, the texture, the feel.
It’s the same with white in your home.
You can still have crisp, clean, fresh white in your home all year round, whether you’re a rebel or not.
There are 2 tricks though.
- During the colder months, add in some cream, off white, beige and gray to soften it up.
- Use texture. Use white fur, flannel, wool, and leather to add interest.
I mean how cozy does this white chair and throw from Pottery Barn look?
Here are 10 white home décor items that will look great in your home year round –
This pretty white quilt from Pottery Barn gives any bed a fresh look while still being cozy.
Faux fur is always comfy and cuddly, especially these pillows and throws from Pottery Barn. We have a faux fur throw at my house and we call it the ‘sleeping blanket’ because the minute you put it on you you fall asleep.
Macy’s Hotel Collection sheets are A-mazing! You won’t believe how much better you’ll sleep in great sheets! I’ll never buy any other sheets!
You can never go wrong with white candles. These ones from Pier 1 are battery operated and even have a timer so that they’ll go on and off at the same time every day. You can’t get much easier than that.
If you want white bar stools then leather is the way to go. It wipes clean! These from Pier 1 are comfortable too!
I happen to love these artichoke statuettes. I have them in various sizes in the bookshelf in my own home. They look great on a shelf or a mantel or even in a centerpiece. This one is from Joss & Main, but I found mine at HomeGoods.
White pumpkins! If you’ve been following the blog or my instagram you know that I’m obsessed with white pumpkins this year. These are faux from Joss & Main. I also bought some at a local farm. They’re a little more expensive than the traditional orange, but I think they’re worth it!
I LOVE to decorate with books! But, they can end up looking messy with too much variation in the covers. Here’s an answer for that. These from Interior Homescapes are perfect! I also found some white ceramic books at HomeGoods that I love to use for home staging.
I’ve used these roman shades from Country Curtains more times than I can count. They’re thermal. They’re great quality. They come in a few colors and sizes. And, they’re so easy to install. You can’t go wrong.
Love the texture in this wool rug from Crate & Barrel. It’s the perfect way to add a textured white with some gray.
So go ahead, wear white and decorate with white, year round.
And who cares what ‘they’ say anyway?
